Use Wake to turn on an offline computer from the Devices screen. An online device of the same organization sends the wake signal on the local network.

When the Wake button shows

The Wake button shows for an offline device when all of these are true:
  • Another device of the same organization is online on the same network. Both devices have the same public IP address.
  • The offline device reported its network adapters before.

How it works

  1. You select Wake for the offline device.
  2. The console queues the request.
  3. The online device gets the request in its next heartbeat. This takes about 15 seconds.
  4. The online device sends Wake-on-LAN magic packets on the local network. It sends them to the MAC addresses of the offline device.

Requirements

  • Wake-on-LAN is on in the firmware (BIOS or UEFI) of the target computer.
  • Wake-on-LAN is on in the network adapter of the target computer.
  • The target computer uses wired Ethernet in most cases.
  • Both devices run QuickDesk 1.5.1 or later.
  • The target was online at least once with that version. This lets it report its adapters.
Wake-on-LAN is not available on iOS.

Troubleshooting

The Wake button does not show

  • No online device is on the same public IP address as the target. Start another device of the organization on that network.
  • The target never reported its adapters. Start the target with QuickDesk 1.5.1 or later. Keep it online for a short time.

The Wake request is sent, but the computer stays off

  • Check the Wake-on-LAN settings in the firmware.
  • Check the state of the computer. A computer that sleeps can wake more often than a computer that is shut down.
  • Turn off Windows “fast startup”.
  • Check the power management settings of the network adapter. Allow the adapter to wake the computer.
