# Web viewer

> Control an online QuickDesk device from your browser. No install is necessary.

The web viewer controls an online device from your browser. It uses the same
relay as the desktop app. You do not install anything.

> **WARNING:**
> The relay carries the web viewer session without end-to-end encryption. For
> sensitive work, use the desktop app.

## Who can use it

Platform operators can use the web viewer on all devices. Owners and admins
of an organization can use it on the devices of their organization.

## Connect to a device

1. Open the **Devices** screen in the console.
2. Find an online device.
3. Select the **Connect** link. The browser opens `/connect/<device id>`.
4. Enter the device password. This is the password that the device shows.
5. Select connect.

To ask the person at the device to accept the session, leave the password
empty. That person accepts with a click.

## What it supports

- Screen video (VP9 and VP8)
- Mouse
- Keyboard
- Ctrl+Alt+Del
- Sound from the device. Use **Sound on** and **Sound off** to mute it.
- Clipboard text, in the two directions. When you press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a
Mac), the viewer first sends your clipboard to the device. The browser asks
you to allow the clipboard one time.
- A select for the display, when the device has more than one display
- Disconnect

## Browser requirements

The browser must support WebCodecs and WebTransport. These browsers work:

- Current Chrome
- Current Edge
- Current Firefox

## Not yet supported

- File transfer
- Images and files on the clipboard. Only text goes through.
- Long clipboard text from the device in some browsers. The device compresses
long text, and only some browsers can read it.
